My name is Stacey Marquee-Flentje and by vocation I am a Clinical Psychologist with a private practice in Kalamazoo, Michigan. My husband is a pediatrician as well as a child/adolescent/adult psychiatrist. His primary work is with adolescents and adults in the corrections system. He works with children in the foster care system as well as. We have been breeding dogs (Schipperkes and Pembroke Welsh Corgis) for more than 11 years.
We are located in Kalamazoo, Michigan and have lived here for about 7 years. Prior to that, we spent 14 years in the Grand Rapids area. We have 4 adult children. Our oldest graduated with honors from Mills College in Oakland California in May of 2017 with a degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing. She is currently working on her MA in Library Sciences and working at the public library. Our next oldest child graduated in June 2020 from Western Michigan University with a degree in secondary education. Our third oldest child graduated with honors from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2019 and taught English and Spanish at a local high school. Our youngest is 23 and is currently pursuing a degree in biology and has a keen interest genetic engineering and is actively pursuing a career in the military. Ok, I'm done bragging about our children.
Our Pembroke Dam is Arianwen ( Are-we-on-when) (Renny) and her name means First Light of Silver. Renny came to us from Missouri and has an amazing personality. She is feisty, rambunctious, and always on the move. She is a true adventurer and loves to soar from place to place: From whatever height she can manage; be it a pond dock or the back of a couch. She is an absolutely AMAZING mother! Quite honestly, I believe her to be the most attentive and nurturing mama we have ever had the privilege of breeding.
Our emerging dam is Myfanwy ( Muh-Fun-Wuh) (we call her Gwinny or the Floof) and her name is Welsh for "My Precious". Gwinny is a Black Headed Tri-Color with the dilute gene. Corgis with this color variation are referred to as "Bluies." The dilute gene is a double recessive gene, which Gwidgeon also possesses.
Until April 2020, we got roughly 25% bluies, but chose to retire our dam (Ceridwen (Curr-id-when) (Curry) who also carries the gene in June 2020. The choice to retire Curry was for her own health as she had difficulty with 2 litters in a row and did not produce milk for either litter. Of course, there was a level of sadness connected to spaying Curry as bluies are quite rare and we have loved having them as part of our breeding program.
Imagine our absolute glee when we found Gwinny available in Texas. She possesses all the genetic specifications we require, so my husband and I traveled to Texas in September of 2020 to pick her up. We began breeding Gwinny in the Summer of 2022.
On the left is Olifer Taliesen (Ollie). His name means small warrior and singer of poetry. He will be our new sire in February, 2024.
On the right is Gruffudd Medwyn (Gruff). His name means prince and strong friend. He will spend his time being Greg's new best friend.
Gwidgion (rhymes with pigeon), who went by Gwidgie, passed in January 2023. "Gwidgion" is Welsh for Singer of Love Songs. Gwidgion was whelped on a horse farm in Wisconsin and had a quite an attuned herding instinct. His personality was absolutely delightful and he was quite fond of human attention. He was also quite the "talker". This will make sense to you if you have had the privilege of having a Corgi in your life. Gwidgie sired so many beautiful corgis, and is intensely missed.
